Background
Holland Construction Services was selected to renovate this 6-story historical building in downtown Belleville, formerly called the Meredith Home/Hotel Belleville, and now known as Lofts on the Square.
The building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was constructed in 1931 and operated as The Hotel Belleville, and renovated in 1961 as the Meredith Home retirement center. The new facility includes 47 apartments, common areas, activity spaces, a library/computer lab, an exercise room and storage facilities. The building also includes 3,000 square feet of restaurant and retail space on the first floor.
The Lofts on the Square apartments is available to senior citizens, 55 and older, who meet income requirements. The apartments are on the second through sixth floors and the first floor features a restored lobby area and street-level commercial space.
This is a building that was once slated for demolition, and now, we feel confident it will become a focal point of our city. Holland went the extra mile on many occasions to find innovative ways to ensure this project stayed true to our original vision for it and communicated with us every step of the way. We are thrilled with the end result.
